Summary
Elephas, a Madison, WI-based biotechnology start-up company, is seeking a highly motivated In-House Lawyer to join our team. Applicants should be comfortable in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. A successful candidate will provide legal advice, draft and review contracts and ensure legal compliance. As an In-House Lawyer at Elephas, you will support strategic decisions by mitigating risks across various areas: commercial contracts, employment law, corporate governance, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice: Offer guidance to executives and various departments on legal matters that affect the company's operations and strategy.
- Draft and review documents: Create, review, and negotiate contracts, employment agreements, and other legal documents.
- Ensure compliance: Make sure the company adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Oversee corporate governance: Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and ensure adherence to corporate policies.
- Conduct research: Stay up to date on changes in legislation and conduct legal research to advise the company on new risks and opportunities.
- Manage internal matters: Handle internal investigations, provide training to employees on legal topics, and advise on labor and employment issues.
- Support transactions: Provide legal perspective on corporate transactions like mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
Education/Experience/Skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar in good standing.
- Strong background in corporate law, contract law, and compliance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing complex legal projects and transactions.
- Adaptable, open to change, able to work in ambiguous situations, and capable of responding to new information or unexpected circumstances
- Able to thrive in fast-paced culture, taking on multiple responsibilities based on business needs
