Posted on Oct 16, 2025

The Research Engineer plays a key role in pushing the boundaries of autonomous robotics software — bringing a scientific and experimental mindset to real-world engineering challenges. You will collaborate closely with development teams to research, prototype, and validate next-generation autonomy solutions in mapping, localization, perception, sensor fusion, planning, and control.

This position is ideal for a curious, analytical, and hands-on engineer who enjoys transforming theoretical ideas into robust, production-ready solutions.

How you will contribute

Research & Knowledge Sharing

  • Explore and evaluate state-of-the-art methods in autonomy and related fields — including object detection, tracking, point cloud processing, and sensor fusion.
  • Summarize findings, prepare reviews and reports, and share insights across engineering teams.

Algorithm & Model Development

  • Design and adapt algorithms and machine learning models for autonomy challenges.
  • Develop proof-of-concept implementations and support dev teams in transitioning prototypes into production-ready C++ code.

Validation & Experimentation

  • Design experiments and data-driven methods to validate and benchmark autonomy models and systems.
  • Analyze results, draw conclusions, and document findings in clear technical or scientific-style reports.

What we're looking for

  • MSc or PhD (or ongoing PhD) in Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
  • Background in mathematical modelling, optimization, and data analysis
  • Experience with C++ and motivation to deepen your expertise
  • Proficiency in at least one prototyping language (Python, Julia, etc.)
  • Comfortable working with Linux, and familiar with modern software development tools (git, Docker, etc.)
  • Self-driven, curious, and collaborative mindset
  • Fluent English and strong communication skills

Bonus points for

  • Experience in robotics and distributed systems (sensors, radar, ROS, message queues)
  • Deep understanding of optimization (trajectory, mathematical, or algorithmic)
  • Hands-on ML expertise — training, designing, or tuning deep learning models
  • Experience with simulation and experimentation frameworks (e.g., Gazebo, CARLA, Isaac Sim)

Why join indiGO?

  • Opportunity to research, invent, and build the future of autonomous driving
  • Freedom to experiment with bold ideas and turn them into real systems
  • Collaborate with top engineers in robotics, embedded systems, and AI
  • Modern office in Tartu city center, with hybrid work flexibility
  • Join a dynamic, international team where curiosity drives innovation
  • Bragging rights: you'll literally be building a car
