Associate Director, Analytical AI Innovation and Excellence

Position Summary
Associate Director, AI Innovation and Excellence, is a pivotal role with a combination of technical expertise, strategic vision, and collaborative leadership to support company-wide cross-functional AI applications. A hands-on leader responsible for driving specific AI initiatives from conception through deployment. You will apply deep expertise in both analytical and generative AI to tackle cross-functional pharmaceutical challenges. You are expected to execute and deliver AI/ML solution while collaborating closely with business partners to deliver solutions that enhance decision-making. You will oversee the design, development, and deployment to ensure the scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the strategic planning and execution of AI projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
Identify and prioritize high-impact AI opportunities, driving innovation and excellence in AI applications across the organization.
Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of AI projects, ensuring timely delivery, high quality, and measurable business impact within defined scope and resources.
Apply hands-on expertise in analytical AI (ML, predictive modeling) and generative AI (LLMs, prompt engineering, agentic framework) to design, develop, validate, and implement solutions.
Collaborate effectively with data scientists, engineers, domain experts (R&D, Clinical, Commercial, etc.), and IT partners to translate business needs into technical requirements and AI-driven solutions.
Serve as a key liaison between the AI Innovation & Excellence group and other departments, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring seamless integration of AI solutions.
Contribute to the identification and evaluation of innovative and effective AI/ML model development and implementation. Advance the business insight extraction via technology relevant to domain specific pharma challenges.
Support the implementation and adherence to AI governance frameworks and responsible AI principles within project execution.
Communicate project progress, findings, and technical concepts clearly to project stakeholders and team leadership.
Advocate for the adoption of AI technologies and methodologies, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI and related technologies, bringing new ideas and approaches to the organization.
Represent the organization at industry conferences, workshops, and other forums, sharing insights and contributing to the broader AI community.
Champion AI best practices in model development, validation, deployment (MLOps concepts), and documentation.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant quantitative field (Comp Sci, AI, Data Science, Mathematics etc.) or a scientific/engineering focus (Biology, Chemistry, or a related field in engineering) with minimum 5+ years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with both Analytical AI and Generative AI techniques and platforms. Analytical AI: Deep understanding and practical application of machine learning algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, reinforcement learning), statistical modeling, and predictive analytics. Generative AI: Proven experience working with large language models (LLMs), transformer models, prompt engineering, rag, and agentic framework.
Familiarity with pharmaceutical data sources (e.g., clinical trial data, real-world data, claims data, longitudinal data)
Proven track record applying AI to support decision-making in the pharmaceutical industry.
Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, SQL) and experience with AI/ML libraries/frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and at least one front end development framework (React, Streamlit, Dash, Shiny or similar)
Excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $167,540-$203,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience. Eligibility for specific benefits listed on our careers site may vary based on the job and location.
