If so, LabCorp wants to speak with you about an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Blood Bank Technologist in Knoxville, TN. In this position you will work in a fast paced, customer focused, and challenging environment, and will be a part of our overall mission at LabCorp: "Improving Health, Improving Lives".

We are a Transfusion Medicine Service located in a 600+ bed Academic Medical Center. Our Medical Center has the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center, ECMO Unit, and Stem Cell Program. In addition, we house a 55-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. If you would like to join our team in this fast-paced setting where we provide transfusion support for the area’s most critically-ill patients down to the smallest neonate, we would be delighted to have you apply.

The work schedule for this position will be 6:30 am - 3:00 pm with rotating weekends and holidays.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria and report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot BioRad iH1000 automated, gel technology blood bank analyzer and perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical and critical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Medical Lab Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements

  • A minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required OR an MLS/CLS/MT degree

  • ASCP or AMT certification is required

  • Tennessee state license is a plus

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

FLU - New Team Members will be required to present proof of influenza immunization or will be given the influenza vaccine during the pre-employment screening by Occupational Medicine or during hospital orientation between September 1 and March 31. Dates may be extended based upon community flu burden. New Team Members employed outside of months when influenza vaccine is available will be informed of the policy and will be expected to comply with vaccination the next influenza season.
