Histology Team Leader

We are seeking a Histology Team Lead to join our team at LabCorp team where we are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical laboratory services. Come work in our Pathology laboratory located in Monrovia, CA alongside a highly trained staff with the latest technology. Our services are performed with the utmost care, expertise, integrity and respect for the patient. Our laboratory in Los Angeles focuses primarily on dermatology and GI Specimens

  • Pay Range: $31.13-$39.27/hr.+ 3rd shift differential
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7pm-330am

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess daily workload and assign work tasks to staff as needed.Perform all duties of Histotechnologist. bench work/testing tasks as needed.
  • Support supervision of all staff in the Histology department.Notify manager of any employee performance problem/issues as they occur.
  • Train and schedule personnel to meet testing and reporting turnaround time requirements. Willingly accepts assignments of new employees and/or trainees and strives to strengthen their understanding of theory and procedures.
  • Perform competency assessments of staff as assigned by manager/supervisor.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and institute appropriate root cause analysis and corrective actions and document actions taken by applying problem solving and decision-making skills to complex technical issues and evaluating outcomes.
  • Assess acceptability of quality control material.
  • Answer questions from other departments, Labcorp sites, and clients.
  • Ensure operational compliance with the laboratory’s policies and procedures and the Quality Management System.
  • The Lead will review specimens and solve problems related to processing of surgical specimens for analysis to ensure timely delivery of reports to pathologists. Ensures all staff maintains safety, quality control, competency and quality assurance standards compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
  • Ensure that the laboratory's instrument/equipment calibrations and maintenance are conducted and documented in accordance with written procedures.
  • Participate in the validation/verification of new assays and qualification of instruments/ equipment in the department.
  • Follows established guidelines and regulatory criteria. As a lead, will assist the Histology Supervisor/Manager in the day-to-day operations that may include staffing and scheduling, coordinating work, and staff training and coaching.
  • Assist supervisor:Track and monitor departmental quality indicators/metrics.
  • Oversee/perform monthly reviews of various logs/records.
  • Oversee the laboratory’s inventory, reagents, and supplies.
  • Oversee preparation of reagents and solutions according to established criteria.

Archival of materials per retention schedule.

  • Oversee and possess the skill set to work within an electronic LIS.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences and completion of a certified clinical program in histopathology with 2 years of pertinent experience. OR Bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences with 4 years of pertinent experience.
  • HT/HTL (ASCP) required
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment is desirable
  • Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
