Job Description

PolyJoule is recruiting a part-time / projects-based mechatronics-automation engineer, to prototype, build and refine automation equipment for in-house projects that range from chemical reactors to battery manufacturing.

This is a hands-on position: You will build what you design.

The position is cross-disciplinary, covering mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, hardware, interfacing, signal processing, modifying/augmenting off-the-shelve systems, automation, data management, prototyping, and PLC programming.

Responsibilities

  • Design, source, and build automated equipment for material handling (solids, liquids, and gases) in an iterative, prototype-to-use environment.
  • Add automated capabilities to off-the-shelve hardware such as pumps, motors, heating/cooling, etc.
  • Fast turnaround prototyping and process improvement.
  • Able to communicate with scientists, engineers and technicians in other fields of study and distill important details that guide design elements and decisions.
  • A can-do attitude with a hands-on understanding of various manufacturing processes, including stamping, coating, mixing, heat-transfer, automatic assembly, PLCs and other control schema, quality management.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with general lab practices and safety protocols.
  • Strong background and experience working with electronics, sensors, and mechanical hardware
  • Proficiency with Python, Raspberry Pi, Simatic/CtrlX, Robotics, Electromechanical design, Pneumatics, Sensors, Signal Processing, I2C, SPI, UART, and ADC.
