Scopely is looking for a Lead Client Engineer to join an unannounced title based in our Shanghai office (5 days in the office).

What You Will Do
We are looking for a Lead Client Engineer to help build the next generation of our games. You will lead a team of passionate engineers while developing core systems and features that power large-scale, real-time experiences for our unannounced game title. You’ll work on complex technical challenges involving real-time interaction, large-scale systems, and a persistent shared world used by tens of millions of players.
- Grow and lead a team of client engineers to deliver high-quality features and gameplay systems.
- Architect, develop, and maintain key client-side components that enable rich, scalable game experiences.
- Partner closely with server, product, design, and other cross-functional teams to ensure technical alignment and product quality.
- Drive engineering best practices, including code reviews, unit testing, load testing, and performance optimization.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across mobile platforms to ensure stability and uptime for live systems.
- Contribute to planning efforts, including task breakdown, scoping, rapid prototyping, and guiding junior developers.
- Participate in regular in-person meetings and collaboration sessions (role requires 5 days/week in office).
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years experience developing commercial games in Unity, C#
- Experience with mobile native coding (Java/Kotlin for Android, ObjC/Swift for iOS, C/C++ for native)
- Experience with network programming, cloud computing and server debugging
- Familiar with Git, Bash, Python and Gradle
- Experience leading a team: task breakdown&scoping, code reviews, mentoring junior devs, prototyping, etc.
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
- Professional proficiency in both Mandarin and English, written and spoken
Bonus Points
- BS / MS in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent
- Experience with profiling and optimization for mobile
- Experience with developing productivity tools and creating efficient procedures
- Experience with graphics programming for 3D games
- Rich experience in playing mobile games and console games
