We're looking for an experienced Senior Manager to lead our Observability team. This role is a great fit for a leader who is passionate about building and running distributed systems at scale and wants to make a significant impact on our engineering teams and users. You'll be a key partner to engineering leadership, helping to define the product roadmap and drive the team's vision.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Vision & Strategy: Partner with engineering leadership to drive the Observability vision and shape the product roadmap.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing engineers who are building a state-of-the-art, cloud-based environment. You'll also be responsible for recruiting and nurturing new talent.
Collaboration & Cross-functional Work: Work across the organization and with different functions to deliver high-quality products. This includes collaborating with design and engineering directors, managers, and architects to drive excellence.
Drive Excellence: Promote data-driven decision-making by using information collected across the Snowflake stack to ensure user needs are met. You'll develop APIs, infrastructure, tools, and training to provide engineers with deeper insights into application performance and service health.
-
Operational Management: Balance strategic and operational needs, from pitching ideas and negotiating trade-offs to coordinating resources. Present core service performance metrics and health in operational meetings to discuss ongoing system improvements.
Basic Qualifications
You have experience leading large software teams that have delivered complex, impactful products.
You're passionate about building and running distributed systems in a production environment.
You have a proven track record of effective people management, leadership, and mentoring.
You're skilled at working collaboratively across different functions and remote teams.
You have an appetite for ensuring systems are observable, which provides insights for engineers to understand and validate changes to their software.
You're committed to fostering good engineering practices like fast iterative development, testing, continuous integration, and continuous build/test/release automation.
Preferred Qualifications
Expert knowledge of modern observability practices.
Proven ability to collaborate with Technical Program Managers and Architects on the design, development, and rollout of highly technical observability initiatives.
Deep knowledge of logs, metrics, traces, and alerts, and how to use this data to help developers and operators make quick decisions.
Experience with container deployment and orchestration technologies at scale, including service discovery, deployments, monitoring, and load balancing.
Experience with development and deployment in hosted cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
