About the Role

We are hiring a National Director who will build, train, mentor and lead our field medical team. This role will be involved in hiring, mentoring, and retaining a high performing team; developing innovative processes, infrastructure and capabilities to best serve our customers; and collaborate internally as a key member of medical affairs leadership to collect insights and metrics that will shape company strategy and priorities.

Join us in advancing our pipeline to address several diseases across therapeutic categories including eye care, dermatology, and other diseases with high unmet needs.

Let’s talk about some of the key responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead, manage and develop our company’s field medical team of ambitious, high-performing, empathetic and clinically oriented Senior Medical Ambassadors (SMAs)
  • Develop robust territory plans that impact and inform scientific expert panel (SEP) physicians leading to measurable clinical impact
  • Ensure quality execution of all field medical activities, collect medical insights from at scientific meetings
  • Provide in-territory coaching for field medical team: maximizing and measuring impact, prioritizing engagements, and ensure timely feedback to SMA team
  • Develop and implement field medical strategy, including key initiatives, and insights gathering
  • Oversee SMA conference coverage - lead key activities for medical conferences including pre-conference planning, insights collection
  • Optimize SMA efficiency and reach, oversee team engagement with academic centers, centers of excellence, hospital networks and payer customers
  • Identify opportunities for cross-functional collaboration including clinical operations, market access, sales and marketing
  • Partner with medical affairs, sales and marketing leadership to ensure synergistic messaging and to convey feedback and insights from the field
  • Ensure compliant field interactions per company compliance SOPs and PhRMA guidelines
  • Identify gaps in HCP education and clinical evidence; propose ideas on how to address unmet educational and evidence needs
  • Serve as a disease state and product expert and be able to provide strategic input into educational initiatives and product launch plans
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge on Demodex blepharitis scientific literature and market, and keep tabs on KOL engagement and opportunities for disease state education and awareness

Factors for Success:

  • Doctorate degree required (MD/DO (Ophthalmology), OD; PharmD or PhD)
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience; five years as a leader of field-based employees; two (2) in eye care medical affairs and two (2) years as a medical liaison.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to inspire and motivate others, and be an advocate for the team

A Few Other Details Worth Mentioning:

  • The position will be field based anywhere in the continental United States, preference will be given to candidates who live within easy commuting distance to a major airport
  • This position reports directly to our Vice President, Medical Affairs
  • Travel to conferences, field-visits nationally, and our corporate headquarters will be required, estimated 50-60%

At Tarsus, we understand the importance of attracting and retaining top talent. The expected base pay range for this position is $191,200 - $267,800 plus bonus, stock equity, and comprehensive benefits. The base pay range reflects the target range for this position, but individual pay will be determined by additional factors such as job-related skills, experience and relevant education or training.
